About
On me
I’m not actually starving.
I am natively fluent in English and Chinese, no MTL is used for anything on this site.
All content has been translated and posted with permission from the original authors. This also means they are free to revoke permission at any time, and I will comply. Everything that’s posted on here I have personally read and enjoyed, so speed of adding new works will be sporadic.
I separately have an AO3 account, where I rarely post fanfiction and fanfiction translations.
My contact email is available on the sidebar. While I will read all emails, I probably can’t respond to them all. Emails related to begging for requests and updates will be marked as spam.
On translation
I’ve been in translation groups of different sorts for a long time, from manga scanlation to anime fansubbing. My beliefs on translation:
This is not a literal translation site. If you are a beginner trying to learn English or Chinese by studying both versions, or an armchair translation critic with no fluency, this site is not for you.
Translations be as self contained as possible and readers should not need much context (e.g. footnotes) to understand the story, exceptions made for important cultural notes or loanwords. We’re not doing Hugo or Joyce here. Unless the story itself is meant to be a sophisticated literary piece, excessive footnotes are the mark of lazy translation. Optional supplements are fine.
MTL-based releases are fair game to retranslate. The main problem with MTLs is the quality variance between stories and the translator’s language fluency and editing abilities. I have nothing against MTLs because they provide a great way to gain visibility for a work, but a work shouldn’t be considered definitively available if only MTL is available.
On the site’s future
I don’t have a set roadmap on how to expand the site. I’m starting out with web novels but am interested in experimenting with other types of content.
This site is not only meant to have my translated content, but also provide a playground for me to learn web development and sysadmining. Expect things to break sometimes.
